{"id":4106,"date":"2024-03-14T00:54:34","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T00:54:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laurelcreektrackclub.com\/?page_id=4106"},"modified":"2026-01-19T17:01:38","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T17:01:38","slug":"about-us-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laurelcreektrackclub.com\/index.php\/the-club\/about-us-2\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The club is organized into five primary training groups. \u00a0Please contact one of the <a title=\"Coaches\" href=\"https:\/\/laurelcreektrackclub.com\/blog\/coaches\/\">coaches<\/a> for more information on specific training information.<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Developmental<\/strong> <strong>Group<\/strong> &#8211; The &#8220;D-Group&#8221; is suitable for athletes in grades 6-8. \u00a0Training focuses on speed development and fundamental technique for sprinting, hurdling and field events. The D Group is led by Coach Maryann Pierson.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Middle-distance<\/strong> &#8211; Suitable for athletes aged 12+ running events 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m as well as steeple-chase and cross-country preparing to compete locally, provincially, nationally as well as internationally. The group is primarily high school-aged, but athletes continue to connect with the group returning from post-secondary programs for the summer. There is also a group of gr 7-8 athletes who have committed to middle-distance training. In the fall, runners focus on the Cross-Country season. \u00a0Workouts are on Monday and Wednesdays, 5:30pm to 7:30pm and on Saturday mornings. \u00a0Tom Fitzgerald is the primary coach.<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>Sprints<\/strong> &#8211; Training focuses on strength and power development for competitive speed and athletic performance in the 100m to 400m events. Bruce Glebe coaches \u00a0junior high and high school- aged athletes. \u00a0Workouts are Monday, Wednesday, Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>Hurdles <\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Athletes focus on technique for sprint and long-hurdle events, as well as speed development and competitive performance.\u00a0 This group is led by Coach John McLean.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0<strong>Jumps <\/strong>&#8211; This group works with both horizontal and vertical jumpers from beginners to those competing at the national and international level.
