Kailee Sawyer and Jaimie Phelan win ‘Athlete of the Year’ at AO Awards Banquet

 

Four K-W athletes in the above picture were honoured at the Athletics Ontario awards banquet with ‘Athlete of the Year’ for outstanding performances in track and field in Toronto on Oct 30, 2010. Two of these are from Laurel Creeks TC!  Kailee Sawyer (far left) and Jaimie Phelan (3rd from left) both had outstanding seasons in indoor and outdoor track. Kailee Sawyer was honoured as the top performer for the bantam-age in the girls middle-distance division. Kailee won gold in the OA Indoor Championships in the 800m and 1200m and silver in the 150m.  In the outdoor season she set new provincial records in the 800m, 1200m and 1500m outdoors. She was ranked first in the nation by AC in all three events.  Jaimie Phelan was honoured as the midget-age winner in the girls middle distance category. Jamie set new provincial records in the 1200m and 2000m outdoors and is ranked first in the nation by AC in five events: the 800m, 1200m, 1500m, 2000m and 3000m.Outdoors Jaimie won 2 Golds at Canadian Youth Championships in the 1200m and 200m and a Silver at Canadian Junior Championships in the 3000m.
