LC Athletes Soar at Legion Ontario Provincial Youth Track and Field Championships

Nearly 500 athletes from across Ontario descended on the University of Windsor this past weekend for the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Youth Track and Field Championships. Among those competing were six members of Laurel Creek Track Club Jumps and Multi’s group who’d been chosen in a regional qualifier in June for the District C Team.

U16 long jumper Nicole Paine was crowned provincial champion with a jump of 5.23m on her final attempt. That performance got Nicole an invitation to join Team Ontario for the Canadian Youth Track and Field Championships in Brandon Manitoba August 11-13.

Other top performances from the club were Emily Smith capturing the bronze medal in U18 high jump, Kohl Grevenstein who was 4th in U16 high jump and 5th in long jump, Abby Byers taking 4th in U16 200m and Karley Breen 7th in U18 long jump.

Decathlete Caleb Timm received an invitation to join Team Ontario’s reserve for the national championships as well based on his 4th place performance at the Legion meet and his placing as 2nd Canadian at the IAAF Capital Cup meet in Ottawa July 3-4.

Legion track and field is fully supported and sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion who for over 40 years have been developing the youth of Canada.
